Who, why, what, where…
The Aviation Place
The Aviation Place is all about sharing info and encouraging learning and development and teamwork throughout the Aviation industry. That’s it. Just trying to improve safety in aviation, but in a (hopefully) fun and interesting way.
We are always looking for others to join us here at The Aviation Place. If you have experience in aviation, a love of finding weird and wonderful ways to try and make it better, safer, more fun, inclusive or resilient then get in touch and join us.
Hello
My name is Rebecca Lougheed. I am a commercial pilot, aviation writer, purveyor of puns and random facts, sock designer and book reader, and I set up The Aviation Place because I am clever. OK, fine, not because I am clever, I am definitely not! The number of mistakes, errors, and general silliness that I have gone through while learning things in my aviation career is the real reason I made this.
I want to help others avoid the same silly mistakes and embarrassment of thinking “I really should know that but I don’t!” by sharing what is currently stuffed into my little brain.
I have worked in aviation for the best part of two decades and have had the amazing opportunity to fly various different Airbus – the A330 (slipperiest), A340 (longest), A380 (biggest) – and also the Boeing 787 (newest) and the Avro RJ85 (funniest). I miss having 4 engines.
I have also worked as a Flight Ops Specialist, seeking out anything and everything happening in the world of aviation that people might need to know about, want to know about or have no clue about (when they should). And then I tell them about it.
When I’m not doing that I am occasionally lecturing at University (on aviation things), writing (about aviation things) for various magazines and industry spots including EASA’s Conversation Aviation, FlightRadar24 blog and BALPA’s The Log, and sometimes I am mentoring or running workshops where ATC and pilots get to yell at each other.
